Arsene G. Vanitas

“It took something from me, so it’s only fair that I return the favor.”

Arsene was a human. Key word there, was. She’s honestly not sure what she is now so she couldn’t tell you what creature she could be, nor does she care. What she does know is that she's extremely motivated, empathetic and always sticks to her morals, even if they come off as stubborn or thick headed. She tends to dwell on the past and can lose her temper due to stress. They do freelance art and writing to make ends meet, but at night this is a whole different story. Handful of years ago, Arsene made some promises to a parasitic entity named “Fàidhe Brèige”. Only she’ll know why she made these promises, but she will admit that she ended up not feeling comfortable with some of it’s requests and offers. This refusal led to Fàidhe corrupting their limbs out of anger, leaving Arsene to have pain in these areas of her body for years and years to come. But she didn’t give in, still defying its demands even to this very day. They’ll forever be followed by Fàidhe, but at least they can at least attempt to fight back against the powers that be.

Fàidhe Brèige

“Despite your convictions, I know deep down in your soul you’re terrified of my presence alone.”

Fàidhe Brèige, a being known as a fomoire in its local region of Northern Scotland, can resemble a multitude of different creatures or forms. Some areas say it resembles a cow-like human hybrid, adorned with precious stones and metals. Others say it looks like a flock of birds of different shapes and sizes, telling its demands through coordinated caws. But in the case for Arsene, she thinks it looks similar to that of a raven mixed with a goat and small segments of engraved human flesh. Regardless of its appearance it’s personality remains the same throughout all accounts. Fàidhe is coordinated. A very calculated manipulator that yearns for human attention and energy. However, with its intelligence comes its intense pride. It’s terrified of defiance or loss of control in its devotees.Origins roughly go back to the Miocenean period, where Fàidhe formed between what would have been a mountain range. It traveled for thousands of years, seeing several ice ages come and go, and hundreds of species rise and fall. Once the early version of humans began to populate the area, Fàidhe began to make deals with them. Not fair ones mind you, most of them harmed those on the receiving end. And once organized religion came along, Fàidhe received its name as “false prophet” in Scottish Gaelic. This mainly due to said deals turning almost religious in nature, with Fàidhe promising blessings in return for (what is effectively) spiritual vampirism. Even thousands of years later, Fàidhe is still worshiped and given the energy it wants. But at least one devotee is trying to knock it down a peg.
